New Mexico State 69, Prairie View A&M 57

LAS CRUSES, N.M. – The Prairie View A&M University men’s basketball team lost at New Mexico State 69-57 Sunday.

Reigning SWAC Player of the Week Gary Blackston scored a game-high 19 points and just missed another double-double with nine rebounds, while adding two assists and three steals. Dennis Jones scored 17 points and added three rebounds, and Zachary Hamilton scored 14 points and had three rebounds for PVAMU (2-5).

The Panthers never led in contest, shooting just over 39 percent from the field (20-51), nearly 43 percent from three-point range (6-14), and 69 percent from the free throw line (11-16) in out-rebounding New Mexico State (6-1) 33-31.

After trailing by as many as 12 in the first half, Prairie View A&M battled back to cut the deficit to four at 32-28 at halftime on a layup by J.D. Wallace.

Early in the second half, Prairie View A&M twice cut the lead to two, the last occasion on a three-pointer by Hamilton to make the score 35-33 but would get no closer.

The Panthers return to action Wednesday at Hawai’i in an 11 p.m. CT game with a live radio broadcast on the PVAMU Sports Network.

Oklahoma State 83, Mississippi Valley State 62

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Kendall Smith scored 14 points and added five assists to help lead Oklahoma State to an 83-62 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Sunday.

The Cowboys won their fourth straight contest overall and their 15th straight non-conference home game dating back to Dec. 2015. Oklahoma State forced a season-high 21 turnovers, four days after inducing 20 against Austin Peay.  The Cowboys also recorded a season-high 13 steals, Mitchell Soloman and Cameron McGriff led Oklahoma State with three each. 

Five different Cowboys scored double-digit points. One game after connecting on 11 3-pointers, Oklahoma State sank 11 in this one, marking the third straight game to shoot at least 10 and the fifth time this season. Cameron McGriff was one rebound away from recording a double-double in his first start of the season. He finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. 

Jordan Evans led the Delta Devils (0-8) with 18 points and three steals.  Emmanuel Ejeh had seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds and a block.
