BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Prairie View A&M guard Gary Blackston has been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Men's Basketball Player of the Week following his standout performance during games played from Nov. 21-27.

Blackston nearly averaged a double-double in the Panthers' last two games, during which time the team went 1-1. Blackston led the way, posting 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

The Baltimore native notched back-to-back 20-point games, highlighted by a 21-point, 10-rebound effort in a 71-56 victory over Georgia State. The figures represented season-bests for Blackston, who also dished out four assists and made one steal in the game. 

In a nail-biter of a loss to UC-Santa Barbara, Blackston scored 21 points and corralled nine boards. He delivered a season-high five assists and cashed in on two swipes. The junior is second on the Panthers with 16.0 points per game this season to go with 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
