Alabama State Clinches Soccer Regular Season Title

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - It took six minutes for the Alabama State University women’s soccer team to lock up the number one seed for the upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, walking away with a 4-0 victory over rival Alabama A&M University Thursday afternoon.
Alabama State (10-7, 8-2 SWAC), who earned the top seed by percentage points, scored the first goal of the match as Lexi Krieger scored the first goal of the match. The senior would go on to add two more to finish with her second hat trick of the season.
The Lady Hornets added another goal in the 29th minute as senior Inma Martinez hit a shot off the crossbar and in for a 2-0 lead heading to intermission.
Alabama State was able to add a pair of insurance goals in the second half as Krieger scored in the 55th minute (on an assist from Teaggan Ilela) and another in the 61st minute to out the game away against Alabama A&M (4-13, 3-7 SWAC).
Gianna Guyot recorded five saves in the match, recording her fourth shutout of the season.
Alabama State will find out their opponent following the matches Friday in conference play, but will enter the championship tournament as the top seed and the defending conference champion.
