Arkansas-Monticello 3, Mississippi Valley State 0 (25-19, 25-19, 27-25)
ITTA BENA, Miss. - Despite an 11-kill, eight-dig effort from Kalin Barnes, Mississippi Valley State suffered a sweep at the hands of Arkansas-Monticello Wednesday evening during non-conference action.
Taylor Selfridge added eight kills for the Devilettes (3-19). Jaime Polk dished out 26 assists and chipped in two block assists, and Jessica Bell collected 25 digs.
Maggie Pyles led UAM with 19 kills.
Mississippi Valley State jumped out to a 6-2 lead but UAM rebounded with a 7-0 run to take a 9-6 advantage in set one. From that point, the Devilettes got no closer than one, as multiple scoring spurts from Arkansas-Monticello kept MVSU's comeback efforts from coming to fruition.
After falling behind 17-9 in set two en route to a 0-2 hole, the Devilettes built a 12-8 lead that UAM ultimately came back from to go ahead 14-12. Mississippi Valley regrouped and largely led from that point, but with a 24-21 advantage and multiple chances at set point, the Devilettes' made three costly errors at the point of attack, handing UAM a 25-24 lead. Selfridge tied it with a kill, but consecutive kills from Pyles ended it for the visitors.
