CONFERENCE NEWS & NOTES

• Running to the top ranks: Alcorn State senior running back De’Lance Turner rushed for the second most yards in a single game in Braves school history with 272 against Southern this past week. Turner ranks sixth in FCS Football in rushing yards with 444 and also ranks fourth in rushing yards per carry with 9.65 per tote.

• Special play: Arkansas-Pine Bluff leads the SWAC with the top kickoff coverage with a net average of 41.8 yards and also holds the best punting net average with 37.1 per kick.

• I’ll take that: Grambling State has, by far, the best plus/minus turnover ratio in the conference with a plus seven through their first four games. Southern is next best with a plus two.

• Running over the competition: Prairie View A&M remains the top rushing offense in the conference, running for an average of 221.3 rushing yards per contest (19th in FCS). Alcorn State is next with 200.2. rushing yards per game (30th in FCS).

• Disciplined Tigers: Jackson State has averaged the least amount of penalty yards per contest with 44.3. The Tigers also lead the conference in average time of possession with 35:02 per game.

• Try to get by me: Mississippi Valley State junior linebacker Patrick Harbin leads the conference in tackles per game with 12.5 per contest. His 36 tackles are the second most in the SWAC and he is tied for the league lead with 3.5 sacks in three games thus far.

• Bursting into your backfield: Southern senior defensive end Aaron Tiller leads the conference in tackles for a loss with 6.5.
