• Texas Southern will look to avenge last season’s 24-20 tight loss to Houston Baptist.  The roles are reversed this time around with a trip to BBVA Compass Stadium.
•  Alcorn State and FIU announced a late change of schdule in date and location due to the threat of Hurricane Irma.  Orginallly planned for a meeting in Miami,  the teams will  instead play at legendary Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday at 6 p.m.
• Seven of the matchups this week will be first time meetings between schools.  The only matchups with teams who have played against one another include Sam Houston State-Prairie View A&M, Houston Baptist-Texas Southern and Northwestern  State  and Grambling State.
•  Grambling State head coach Broderick Fobbs and his Tigers will host Northwestern State, a team that Fobbs served as an assistant coach from 2002-2006.
• Alcorn State nearly had three players record 100 rushing yards in their opening week win against Miles College.  De’Lance Turner (128), Lenorris Footman (103) and P.J. Simmons (95).  The trio currently ranks in the top four among the conference leaders.
