Jacksonville State 3, Jackson State 1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19)
Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. -  Jackson State (1-6) dropped a hard-fought four set battle to Jacksonville State Wednesday evening.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Gamecocks were unable to gain much separation from each other in set one, a frame that saw numerous ties as neither side led by more than two points. Down 19-17 following consecutive attack errors, Jackson State pulled ahead with a 4-0 run aided by two Gamecock miscues and kills from Alexandra Burney and Tielar Richards. However, Jackson State lost the lead and the set thanks to a 6-0 Jacksonville State run that saw Allyson Zuhlke put down two of her 23 kills in the frame as well as two costly attack errors by Jackson State.

In set two, both sides battled to a 15-15 tie until Jackson State's Markayisha Masani got on serve and delivered two aces to fuel a 4-0 Lady Tigers run. Jacksonville State tied it at 22-all, but kills from Camry Dabney and Dayjah Stewart pushed Jackson State ahead, and back-to-back misfires from the Lady Gamecocks' Madison Cooler allowed Jackson State to tie the match.

Jackson State started slowly in set three, falling behind 7-2 -- at the time the largest lead either side had held in the match -- before storming back down the stretch. After a Richards kill and a Zuhlke error put Jackson State ahead 21-20, Jacksonville State stole the frame as Mackenzie Rombach delivered three kills to help the Lady Gamecocks outpoint Jackson State at the end.

Errors ultimately led to Jackson State's defeat. In set four, Jacksonville State pushed ahead 15-9, with nine of its points coming due to mistakes on Jackson State's side. Down by as many as eight, the Lady Tigers got to within four before fading.

Richards led Jackson State with 16 kills, and Dabney added 12 for the Lady Tigers, who were without starting libero Tyler Moorer in the contest. Masani chipped in 16 digs, and Sapphire Simpson (20) and Terri Irving (16) combined for 36 assists.
