BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State nearly swept the honors for Volleyball Players of the Week, as Briana Dorsey, Kori Kutsch, Payten Clark and Alcorn State’s Fiapaipai Iosia were recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference for their standout play in matches from Aug. 29- Sept. 4.

Offensive Player of the Week: Briana Dorsey (Alabama State)
Sr. | 6-0 | MB | Fort Worth, Texas

Dorsey led Alabama State with 34 kills in the team's four matches this week, averaging 2.62 kills per set. After being held to just six kills against Auburn, Dorsey recorded 12 against Fresno State in the opener of the North Harbour Marriott Invitational. She followed that up with nine against Oregon State and seven against Portland, helping her to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Dorsey also led the team in blocks with 13 over the course of the week.

Defensive Player of the Week: Fiapaipai Iosa (Alcorn State)
Jr. | 5-7 | DS/L | Long Beach, Calif.

Iosia claims back-to-back defender weekly honors as she tallied 16 kills, two assists, an ace, a block and a team-best 38 digs for the Lady Braves last week in four matches played as she collected all-tournament honors from the Tennessee State Tiger Invitational. In earning her second all-tournament nod in as many weeks, the junior posted 28 digs, a block and an assist. She also notched a season-best eight kills versus FIU during the TSU Tiger Invitational.

Setter of the Week: Kori Kutsch (Alabama State)
Jr. | 5-9 | S | Torrance, Calif.

Kutsch earned setter of the week honors for the second-straight time after she finished the week with 65 assists, averaging 5.00 per set for the Lady Hornets. Posted 11 helpers against Auburn and rebounded with back-to-back 20-assist efforts against Fresno State (23) and Oregon State (22). Kutsch added nine assists versus Portland and also chipped in 21 digs and a service ace as well.

Newcomer of the Week: Payten Clark (Alabama State)
So. | 6-1 | MB | Baton Rouge, La.

Clark finished with 22 kills this week -- trailing only teammate Briana Dorsey in the category over the same time span -- and added nine blocks in the Lady Hornets’ four matches this past week. Clark stonewalled five attacks against Auburn and chipped in four more during the North Harbour Marriott Invitational. Offensively, Clark had her best outing in an Alabama State uniform against Fresno State, putting down 12 kills against the Lady Bulldogs.
