Mississippi State 3, Grambling State 0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-12)

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Grambling State (1-3) fell in straight sets at Mississippi State during day one of the Bulldog Invitational Thursday night.

Grambling fell behind quickly in set one as MSU tacked on seven of the frame's first nine points. Grambling trailed by as many as 13 before a late spurt brought the Lady Tigers within eight at 20-12. However, Mississippi State managed to close the frame while avoiding a serious threat to its lead.

Set two was a much different story as the Lady Tigers battled the Lady Bulldogs closely as the period began. Grambling was within a point of Mississippi State on several occasions, but the difference was a four-point burst by MSU that saw Khristian Carr slam two kills to push MSU's lead from 16-13 to 20-13. Grambling remained within single digits of the Lady Bulldogs but were unable to overcome the deficit, eventually falling to 0-2 heading into the third set.

The final frame began as set one did, but Grambling would not go quietly, getting to within three on two occasions. After a Javienna Jones spike made it 12-9 MSU, Grambling surrendered six unanswered points to the Lady Bulldogs, a sequence that ultimately allowed Mississippi State to dash the Lady Tigers' hopes of prolonging the match.

Tess Reynolds led GSU with five kills, and Kevreion Ward added four. Diemend Richardson chipped in nine assists.
