BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Paige Hayward and Brianna Norwood of Texas Southern and Jordan Woodward of Grambling State have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) soccer players of the week for their performances over the second week of the regular season.

Offensive Player of the Week

Paige Hayward - Texas Southern

Str. I 5-7 I Jr. I Earlwood, New South Wales, Australia

Hayward netted a hat trick in TSU’s 5-0 win over Concordia (Texas) on Thursday. The striker from New South Wales, Australia, scored two goals and tallied an assist in the first half, then completed her hat trick with a penalty kick five minutes after the restart. Hayward climbed into third place on TSU’s all-time goal-scoring list with 19 career goals; she needs just six more this season to become the school’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Defensive Player of the Week

Brianna Norwood - Texas Southern

D I 5-4 I Jr. I San Antonio, Texas

Norwood tallied an assist and played 74 minutes in TSU’s 5-0 win over Concordia (Texas) on Thursday. The Lady Tigers’ strongest player on throw-ins, Norwood threw a perfect pass to Kelly Sanders in the penalty area, where the freshman promptly scored her first collegiate girl in the 45th minute of Thursday’s contest. Norwood also anchored the TSU defensive line that held Concordia to only two shots (one on goal) as the Lady Tigers outshot their opponents 20-2.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Jordan Woodward - Grambling State

GK I 5-7 I Fr. I Christchurch, New Zealand

Woodward had a solid opening weekend in the net in 180 minutes as she earned her first collegiate victory in Grambling State’s 1-0 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana. She has posted a 0.50 Goals Against Average in two games and has registered five sents 20-2.
