2016 Record: 3-11-1 (3-5-1 SWAC), Eliminated in first round of SWAC tournament

Key Returners: Mila Bustos, Blaire Lane, Paiton Maples

Key Losses: Courtney Aleman, Ravyn Gilbert

Prairie View A&M head coach Abe Garcia will look to improve on the Lady Panther’s first round exit from the 2016 SWAC soccer tournament in 2017.

With the loss of Courtney Aleman, Garcia has to now look for players that will produce or magnify the talents of Aleman.  She totaled the third most points on PVAM’s team last season.  Aleman tallied three goals and added one assist for seven points last season.

Garcia will welcome back Mila Bustos, a 2017 preseason All-SWAC first team selection at defender.   Bustos played 1,093 minutes last season, which was sixth most for the Lady Panthers.  She also contributed one goal for two points.

Blair Lane, Prairie View’s leading goal scorer from a season ago returns after netting four goals and adding one assist for nine points during the 2016 campaign.

Garcia will also have his second leading point getter back for the 2017 season in Paiton Maples. Maples scored four goals to contribute eight points for the Lady Panthers in 2016.

Offensively for Prairie View the team will hope to have more presence from returning players as well as the newcomers.  In 2016, just six players contributed all of the Lady Panthers goals.  Garcia will need to get a more balanced production from his team in order for the Panthers to advance past the first round of the 2017 SWAC soccer tournament.
