BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second time in the calendar year, a conference championship-winning team from Alabama State will begin the NCAA Tournament against the University of Florida.

This time, it will be the Lady Hornets volleyball team squaring off against the Gators, as the NCAA Division I Volleyball Bracket was revealed Sunday night. In May, the Lady Hornets softball team faced Florida in the opening round of the NCAA Softball Tournament.

The Lady Hornets are just removed from their third SWAC Volleyball Tournament Championship in four years. Alabama State was particularly dominant this season, posting a 16-0 record in league player -- 24-8 overall -- and only dropping four sets against SWAC opposition all year.

The Gators come in ranked No. 11 and recently clinched a share of the Southeastern Conference title after downing Arkansas in straight sets. Florida is 26-3 (16-2 SEC) this season and is led by a stout 1-2 punch in Alex Holston (399 K, 156 D, 73 B) and Carli Snyder (339 K, 249 D, 34 B). Allie Monserez sets the table with 1143 assists on the season, as the Gators have five players with at least 100 kills.

Alabama State is led by the quartet of Briana Dorsey, Ni'Yesha Brown, Krysta Medearis and Bayle' Bennett. Each player has notched at least 230 kills, with Dorsey leading the way at 281. With Candace Martin (123 K), they, like UF, also boast five players with 100 putdowns on the year. Justus Tuiolosega (592 A) and Kori Kutsch (448 A) form a strong duo at setter, and Jamie Coleman has posted 487 digs this year.

Alabama State and Florida face off Dec. 2 in Gainesville, Fla.
