Cross Country Athletes of the Week: Oct. 18

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State’s Hassan Chepkwony and Mississippi Valley State’s Scholasticah Kemei took home Southwestern Athletic Conference runner of the week honors after their performances in competition on Oct. 14-15.

Men’s Runner of the Week – Chepkwony
Grambling State

The 2015 SWAC Men’s Runner of the Year took home his second weekly honor of the season after he finished sixth at the Choctaw Open hosted by Mississippi College. Chepkwony posted a time of 25:55.9 in the 8K, helping Grambling garner third in team standings. Chepkwony has finished no worse than seventh individually in each race he has taken part in this season.

Women’s Runner of the Week – Kemei
Mississippi Valley State

The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes won their second team meet in as many weeks, and Kemei was a driving force behind the effort. The freshman finished third overall and first for the Devilettes with a time of 18:51.90 during the Mississippi College-hosted Choctaw Open, as MVSU clamied the Division-I team title in the meet. It is Kemei's second-straight top 3 finish, as she won the week prior.
