News and Notes:

- We are less than four weeks away from the first Southwestern Athletic Conference championship event of the season, as the Men's and Women's Cross Country titles will be decided on Oct. 21 at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.

- Prairie View A&M's Aaron Austin and Jovana Espinoza took home weekly honors as Men's and Women's Runners of the Week, respectively, joining Mississippi Valley State as the only school to sweep the honors thus far this season. Prior to 2016, the last time this happened was in October 2014, when Alabama State's Paige Rankin and Bryont Brown accomplished the feat in the final week of competition before the championship.

- Grambling State, Alcorn State, Southern and the Texas Southern women are set to head to McNeese State University for the Cowboy Stampede. Last year's event was a successful one for SWAC athletes as Grambling State's Hassan Chepkwony finished second overall in the men's race and GSU's Halima Chepkwony claimed eighth on the women's side. The Tiger men placed three runners in the top 25 of the meet. Southern had two runners finish in the top 25 as well.

- Mississippi Valley State, Jackson State, Prairie View, Texas Southern's men, Arkansas-Pine Bluff are all scheduled to be idle this week.
