BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama State Hornets brought their season to a close at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country South Regional meet Friday at Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Competing against some of the best teams in the nation, the Lady Hornets held their own, with 2014 SWAC Women’s Runner of the Year and 2015 First Team All-SWAC athlete Artrailia Lesane leading all Hornet runners with a time of 22:49.70 during the Women’s 6K meet.

Fellow All-SWAC first-teamers Shantia Wilson (23:25.03) and Tatiana Etienne (23:25.45) were next to cross the finish line for Alabama State. Shakalia Williams, who was a second-team all-conference runner, shortly followed with a time of 23:31.56.

2015 SWAC Women’s Runner of the Year Paige Rankine completed her collegiate cross country career with a time of 23:51.37, and Sade Lavallias (24:33.63) and Brandee Ebert (24:58.32) rounded out the field for the five-time defending conference champions. Etienne, Williams, Lavallias and Ebert are all expected to return for the Lady Hornets in 2016.

On the men’s side, Alabama State had one runner compete in the Men’s 10K event, as 2015 Second-Team All-SWAC athlete Bryont Brown finished with a mark of 35:22.87. Brown is also projected to be back in the fold for the Hornets in 2016.
