Cross Country Runners of the Week: October 20

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Runners from Grambling State and Alabama have been recognized by the conference office Tuesday as the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Runners of the Week following their outstanding efforts during competition from Oct. 15-17.

Men’s Runner of the Week
Hassan Chepkwony
Grambling State
Fr.– 5’10 – Cross Country – Kenya

Chepkwony finished third overall with a mark of 25:49.82 during the Mississippi College Choctaw Open men’s 8K run. His time was tops among all Grambling State and SWAC contestants at the event, as he helped GSU earn a fourth-place team finish during the competition. The freshman runner has finished no worse than fourth place all season long.

Women’s Runner of the Week
Paige Rankine
Alabama State  
Sr. – 5’1 – Cross Country – McDonough, Ga.

Rankine earned her third SWAC Runner of the Week honor this season after posting a team-best mark of 18:23.56 in the women’s 4.9K at the University of Alabama Crimson Classic. Rankine competed against the likes of Oklahoma State, Auburn, Texas A&M and Florida State during the event.
