After completing three consecutive seasons with Southern University's women's soccer program, Courtnie Prather was awarded head coach this year and will lead the Lady Jaguars into their 2013 season.

Serving as the assistant coach since 2010, Prather has shared her experience and knowledge for collegiate soccer under the leadership of John Knighten. Knighten sat at the healm for eight years with SU.

In 2011, Prather assisted the team in earning a spot in the Southewestern Athletic Conference tournament two of the last three seasons.

Southern will bring back a host of players this year including All-SWAC First Team goalkeeper, Sarah Forde. Forde led the team in saves (96) and led the conference in saves per game (8.73) during the 2012 campaign.

The defense is highlighted by the return of Courtney Bahadursingh. Bahadursingh started all 12 games last season and had a .750 shot-on-goal percentage.

Coming off a game-winning goal that led SU to their first win of the 2012 season, junior midfielder Fabiola Parra also returns this year. Parra was first on the team in goals (4), points (8) and shots-on-goal (8).

Southern University opens the season on the road Friday, August 23, at 4 p.m. against Nicholls State.
