Southern U. 90, Champion Baptist College 36

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Malcolm Miller scored 17 points and four other Southern University players scored in double figures in a 90-36 rout against Champion Baptist on Saturday.

Javan Mitchell finished with 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Jaguars (2-5), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Derick Beltran and Aaron Alston each had 13 points, and Jameel Grace added 10 points and seven assists.

Southern claimed a 30-5 lead on Mitchell's layup with 7:04 left in the first half. The Jaguars shot a superb 64.4 percent (38 of 59) from the floor for the game and displayed solid defense against Champion Baptist, holding it to 23.7 percent (14 of 59).

Champion Baptist, an NAIA team, never posed a threat against Southern, which built an 86-34 lead -- its largest of the game -- when Miller scored on a layup with 3:57 remaining.

Brandon Likins scored 21 points for Champion Baptist.

Jacksonville St. 56, Alcorn St. 52

LORMAN, Miss.(AP)  -- Ronnie Boggs led four players in double digits with 14 points to help Jacksonville State over Alcorn State 56-52 Saturday in nonconference play.

Tarvin Gaines scored 12 points, Brian Williams added 11 and Darion Rackley chipped in with 10 points for the Gamecocks (6-2).

Alcorn State (2-6) trailed 29-23 at halftime but rallied to tie the game at 43-all behind Anthony Evans' jumper with 5:15 left to play.

Boggs answered with a 3-pointer, then a jumper to put Jacksonville State ahead 48-43.

Evans connected from downtown with 52 seconds left to cut the lead to 53-52, but that was the closest the Braves would get as Jacksonville State made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Evans led Alcorn State with 14 points.

Jacksonville State has won its third straight game this season and improved to 4-1 all-time against the Braves.

Oregon 80, Ark.-Pine Bluff 59

EUGENE, Ore.(AP)  -- Carlos Emory led five double-figures scorers with 16 points for Oregon in an 80-59 win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.

Arsalan Kazemi and Daymean Dotson scored 11 each for the Ducks (7-1), who are off to their best start since opening 8-1 in 2007, and Dominic Artis and E.J. Singler had 10 points each.

Kazemi also had a game-high 13 rebounds and five steals.

Mitchell Anderson scored 16 to lead the Golden Lions (1-6), who lost to a team from the Pac-12 Conference for the third time this season after earlier defeats to Arizona State and Washington State.

Oregon led 37-30 at halftime and put the game away with a 20-2 run early in the second half.

Artis had six points during that stretch, and Emory and Singler had five points each as Oregon went up 57-34 with 13:52 to play.

Tennessee State 83, Alabama A&M 72

NORMAL, Ala. (AP) -- Robert Covington scored a game-high 25 points Saturday night to lead Tennessee State to an 83-72 win over Alabama A&M in nonconference action.

Covington hit two 3-pointers, made four steals and sank nine of 10 free throws, including 4 of 4 in the final 25 seconds for the Tigers (3-5).

Three teammates also scored in double figures. Kellen Thornton finished with 17 points and Patrick Miller 14. Jordan Cyphers came off the Tennessee State bench to score 11 more.

For Alabama A&M (2-4), Brandon Ellis and Jeremy Crutcher scored 16 points apiece. Ellis was also a perfect 10 for 10 at the foul line, but his teammates only made 9 of 16 free throws. That was costly when Tennessee State went 27 of 34 at the foul line.

Demarquelle Tabb had a double-double for the Bulldogs with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Justan Banks scored 10.
