SWAC Football Players of the Week - November 12

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference named quarterback Dray Joseph of Southern, linebackers Bill Ross of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Ryan Griffin of Jackson State, defensive back Kevin Haymore of Mississippi Valley State wide receiver Charles Hawkins its football players of the week for November 12, 2012.

Joseph received the Offensive Player of the Week award for the first time this season, while Ross captured defensive honors for the second straight week and the third time this season. Griffin is a first time honoree, sharing top defensive accolades with Ross, while Haymore was selected Newcomer of the Week and Hawkins earned top specialist honors.

Offensive Player of the Week
Dray Joseph

Joseph continued his outstanding 2012 campaign throwing for 349 yards, completing 32-of-46 pass attempts with 3 TDs in Southern's 31-30 loss to Alabama State It was Joseph's fourth 300-yard passing game of his career and his second this season.

Co-Defensive Players of the Week
Bill Ross
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
SR • LB • 6-2 • 240 • Wetumpka, Alabama

Ross had eight (8) tackles, six (6) solo and two (2) assisted, bringing his league leading total to 105 on the year. Ross also had one (1) sack, a fumble recovery, an interception.

Ryan Griffin
Jackson State
SO • LB • 5-11185 • 
Ypsilanti, Michigan
Griffin finished with 10 tackles (4 solo), 1.5 tackles-for-loss, one (1) forced fumble and a 35-yard fumble
return for a touchdown in the Tigers' win over Alabama A&M. This is the second straight week Griffin has scored a defensive TD.

Newcomer of the Week
Kevin Haymore
Mississippi Valley State

In the first start of his career, Haymore finished with five tackles (1 for loss), a pass breakup and two interceptions in a 22-20 win over Prairie View A&M.

Specialist of the Week
Charles Hawkins
R-SR • WR • 5-7 • 168 • New Orleans, Louisiana

With Southern trailing 28-14 at the half, Hawkins - playing his final game at A.W. Mumford Stadium - returned the opening kickoff of the second half 99 yards for a touchdown.  Hawkins recorded two kick returns for 134 yards and also posted five (5) receptions for 94 yards and another TD.
