BATON ROUGE, La. - In the SWAC-TV Volleyball Match of the Week, Texas Southern University defeated Southern University, 3-1, in Southwestern Athletic Conference western-division play on Wednesday inside Clifford Seymour Gymnasium.

After dropping the first set, 25-16, TSU (6-10, 2-1 SWAC) picked up the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-11, and 25-22, to snap a two-match skid.

Mona Reed finished with a double-double to lead the Lady Tigers' offense tallying 12 kills and a match-high 15 digs. Robyn Shannon tacked on 17 kills to lead all players hitting .500. 

Jyra Churchill posted 28 assists to lead the field and Sarah Wooten followed with 14. Erin Spivey registered 14 digs to help power TSU's defense.

For SU (1-14, 0-1 SWAC), Marisol Macias managed a team-high nine kills to go along with nine digs. Amber Shelby added eight kills with Chanda Journet pacing the Lady Jaguars with 19 assists to couple eight digs. Simone Beasley and Michelle Williams finished in double figures in digs. Beasley recorded 11 and Williams tacked on 12.

JACKSON, Miss. -  Jenna Siddiqui finished with 40 assists to help guide Jackson State University to a 3-1 non-conference win over Southeast Louisiana on Wednesday at T.B. Ellis Gymnasium.

JSU (7-11) moved its win streak to five after dropping the first set 26-24 then winning the final three frames 25-17, 25-23, 25-16.

Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Christine Edwards, led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills to complement six dgs. SWAC Defensive Player of the Week, Paige Williams, hit .438 for the match finishing with nine kills and five blocks. Angelica Kelley led all players with 19 digs.

The SELU (5-10) offense was spearheaded by Courtney Donald and Veronica Turk. Donald posted a game high 18 kills and Turk finished with 11. Mikayla Shippy managed 22 assists and Becky Bekelja followed with 11. Lindsey Young added 13 digs to lead the Lions defense.


Prairie View A&M 3, @Grambling State 0
GRAMBLING, La. -Prairie View A&M University improved to 2-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 west-division win over Grambling State on Wednesday in Memorial Gymnasium.

PVAM (6-15, 2-0 SWAC) finished with a .347 attack percentage sweeping the match with scores of 25-19, 25-10, 25-19.

Three players hit over .400 for the night. Charae Caldwell led the Lady Panthers with 10 kills hitting .562. Rachel Owens added seven kills nailing .571 of her total attacks and Breanna McNeil finished with eight kills hitting .429.

Bruna Menezes finished with 10 kills with SWAC Newcomer of the Week, Kelsey Espinosa, dishing out 27 assists to complement four digs.

GSU (0-10, 0-4) was led by Dorothy Brown, Kierra Hogan and Chantel McGill. Brown led the Lady Tigers with eight kills and Hogan had 10 assists. McGill led GSU's defensive effort with seven digs.
