BIRMINGHAM - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has recognized the Jackson State University duo of Christine Edwards and Paige Williams along with Prairie View A&M University's Kelsey Espinosa as SWAC Volleyball Players of the Week for October 2, 2012.

Edwards was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season while teammate Paige Williams earns her first weekly honor this year capturing the defensive accolade. Espinosa continues to pile on weekly accolades garnering her fifth consecutive SWAC Newcomer of the Week title.

Offensive Player of the Week

Christine Edwards
Jackson State
SR • OH • 5'10 • Lakewood, Calif.

Edwards guided Jackson State to a 2-0 record last week to help stretch the Lady Tigers' win streak to four. She finished with 23 kills from 39 total attacks hitting .410 for the week. She also tacked on 22 service aces, 10 digs and a block assist. In the Lady Tigers 3-0 win at home against New Orleans (9/25), she opened the week with nine kills hitting a match-high of .500. She also added seven aces and three digs. Against Grambling State (9/27), Edwards tallied 14 kills and accounted for 15 of JSU's 23 service aces and seven of 23 digs. This is Edwards' second offensive player of the week award this year.

Defensive Player of the Week
Paige Williams
Jackson State
JR • MB • 6'1 • Arlington, Texas

Williams finished with 10 blocks, recording five block assists in each of Jackson State's 3-0 victories over New Orleans (9/25) and Grambling State (9/27). Against UNO, she added two aces and a dig before tallying three kills and a service ace versus GSU. Williams earns her first SWAC weekly award this season.

Newcomer of the Week
Kelsey Espinosa
Prairie View A&M
JR • S • 5'8 • Pflugerville, Texas

Espinosa piled on another SWAC Newcomer of the Week award for the fifth consecutive week. She registered 35 assists in each of PVAM's three matches. She managed 105 assists, 21 digs and seven kills to help PVAM to a 1-2 slate last week. In the Lady Braves 3-1 loss to McNeese State (9/24), she added three kills, two aces and five block assists. At home in a 3-0 win over Huston-Tillotson (9/25), she finished with two aces and eight digs. In a rematch against McNeese State (9/27), the Lady Panthers dropped another 3-1 decision with Espinosa adding four kills and five digs.
