Impressive List of Players are Headed to Media Day

BIRMINGHAM - The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) coaches will have some impressive company joining them at the 2012 SWAC Football Media Day. The event will be held at Marriott Birmingham on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. Each of the 10 coaches will be accompanied by two of their top student-athletes.

The list of the student-athletes participating in SWAC Football Media Day is below.

Alabama A&M (Head Coach Anthony Jones)
Overall Record: 90-57 (13 years), Record at A&M: 72-45 (10 years)

Vernon Marshall (DB) 5-11 188 SR Birmingham, AL
2011 - Second on the Bulldogs defense with 75 tackles (44 solo), 9.5 tackles for losses (45 yards), 2.5 sacks (23 yards), one interception, three pass breakups and a forced fumble
Kaderius Lacey (RB) 6-0 218 SR Calera, AL
2011 - Bulldogs' leading rusher with 1,143 yards (1st in SWAC) and eight touchdowns on 285 carries. Also had 15 receptions for 164 yards...First team All-SWAC

Alabama State (Head Coach Reggie Barlow):
Overall Record: 27-29 (6 years), Record at ASU: Same

Kejuan Riley (S) 6-2 200 SR Wetumpka, AL
2011 - Hornets second leading tackler with 75 (46 solo), one tackle for loss, nine interceptions (1st in SWAC), four breakups, one fumble recovery...First team All-SWAC
Greg Jenkins (QB) 6-1 210 SR Dade City, FL
2011 - Was 125-for-210, 1,475 yards with 11 TDs and five interceptions...was also the team's second leading rusher with 330 yards and seven (7) TDs

Alcorn State (Jay Hopson):
Overall Record: First year, Record at ASU: Same

Robert Gainwell (LB) 6-1 230 SR Yazoo City, MS

2011 - Had 44 tackles (26 solo), eight tackles for loss, two sacks, a breakup, two QB hurries, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick
Terrence Lewis (WR) 5-11 175 SR Fort Meyers, FL
2011 - Led the Braves in receiving with 28 catches for 489 yards (17.5 avg) and five touchdowns...he also led the team in scoring with 48 points...was also a special teams standout with 157 yards and a touchdown on punt returns, 492 kickoff return yards and two touchdowns...First team All-SWAC

Grambling State (Head Coach Doug Williams):
Overall Record: 63-30 (8 years), Record at GSU: 60-12 (7 years)

Edward Patterson (CB) 5-11 177 SR Monroe, LA
2011 - Had 47 tackles (42 solo), 4.5 for losses (10 yards), two (2) interceptions, six (6) breakups, two (2) fumble recoveries
Sanford Banks (OT) 6-4 319 SR Columbus, GA
2011 - First team All-SWAC

Jackson State (Head Coach Rick Comegy):
Overall Record: 149-77 (20 years), Record at JSU: 41-26 (6 years)

Joseph Lebeau (DE) 6-1 245 SR New Orleans, LA

2011 - Was second on the Tiger defense with 75 tackles (44 solo), 24.5 tackles for loss (132 yards) - (3rd in the nation), 15.5 sacks (3rd in SWAC) (110 yards), seven (7) QB hurries, and three (3) forced fumbles...SWAC Newcomer of the Year
Rico Richardson (WR) 6-1 185 SR Natchez, MS
2011 - Was third in receptions with 36, but led in receiving yards with 853...He led in receiving TDs with 11...had five (5) punt returns for 59 yards and a touchdown...had four (4) for 45 yards...Second team All-SWAC
Mississippi Valley State (Head Coach Karl Morgan):
Overall Record: 1-20 (2 years), Record at MVSU: Same

Javaris Fritz (DE) 6-1 220 SR Tarrant, AL

2011 - Had 28 tackles (13 solo), five (5) tackles for loss (29 yards), 3.5 sacks (25 yards), two (2) breakups, three (3) QB hurries, one blocked kick
Martin Davis (OL) 6-3 260 SR Itta Bena, MS

Prairie View A&M (Head Coach Heishma Northern):
Overall Record: 5-6 (1 year), Record at PVAM: same

Krystopher Watkins (FB) 5-11 SR Westmont, IL
