Devilettes Fall to La.-Lafayette in NCAA Regional

LAFAYETTE, La - Mississippi Valley State fell to Louisiana-Lafayette 8-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. The Delta Devilettes (34-18) fell into the losers brackey and will face Baylor in an elimination game on Saturday at 3:30. The Lady Bears lost to Stanford 1-0 in their tournament opener.

MVSU struggled to generate offense, managing only one hit in the game. Meanwhile, Lafayette piled up 12 hits.

After a scoreless first two innings, the Ragin Cajuns plated a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Then ULL blew the game open witn five runs in the fifth inning, taking a 7-0 lead into the seventh inning. The Ragin Cajuns put the game away in the sixth with another run.

Alicia Lorenz took the loss for MVSU. She allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits and three walks. She also surrendered a pair of home runs.

Alex Robertson had the lone hit for MVSU, a single in the first inning.
