After this weekend's play around the SWAC, the baseball scenarios are taking shape for the conference tournament, which will be played May 16-20 in Baton Rouge, La.

SWAC West

Southern remains on top of the division with a half game lead over Prairie View. The two teams are tied in the loss column.

The Jaguars swept a pair of non-conference games over the weekend against Eastern Division champion Jackson State. The Jags have now won 13 straight games. Prairie View took two of three at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

If Southern sweeps UAPB next weekend, the Jaguars clinch the top seed in the West. If Southern and PV finish in a tie, the Jaguars hold the tie-breaker over the Panthers. Prairie View plays Grambling next weekend.  GSU is still mathematically alive for the division title, but needs to take at least 2 of 3 against Prairie View and then need help from UAPB over SU.

Grambling completed a sweep of Texas Southern on Sunday with a 14-run first inning en route to a 22-6 rout.

TSU is still in the driver's seat to claim the final spot in the tournament from the division. UAPB has to sweep Southern and then have TSU lose its final game to Prairie View, which is a make-up game set for May 9.  TSU holds the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Golden Lions.

SWAC East

Jackson State has clinched the No. 1 seed in the East, and Mississippi Valley State is the No. 4 seed. Alabama A&M is eliminated from contention.

Alabama State and Alcorn State both swept their opponents this weekend setting up next weekend's series at Alcorn that will settle the two and three seeds.

Alcorn State can secure the No. 2 seed by winning the series.  If the teams end in a tie, the Braves hold the tie-breaker over the Hornets by virtue of Alcorn's better record vs. Jackson State.
