Women's Week Six Recap
The Bulldogs weekend included top finishes for the racing Lady Bulldogs, including Shaquina Phalo's third place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.93. The Maroon and White 4x100 relay team placed tenth with a time of 50.81.
Neighboring opponent, Alabama State also joined the competition at the War Eagle Invitational, finishing with several top performances.
Kesia Derilus ran her best 5000 meter of the season, finishing second in the event with a time of 19:05.06.
Tia Rolle continues her strong outdoor season. She finished sixth in both the 100 meter dash (11.81) and in the 200 meter dash (23.88). She also ran the second leg on the 4x100 meter relay team, which finished third with a time of 45.97. The other members of the relay team were Latrice Lee, Asha Tavernier, and Jasmine Pope.
Despite running in a hard rain, the women's 4x400 meter relay team managed to snag a sixth place finish with a time of 3:47.66. Those relay members were Lutrisha Altidor, Jasmine Pope, Jerrica Mahone, an Breana Kelly.
Field athlete Imani White had one of her best discuss throws of the season with a toss of 41.18m (135'-01). She finished eighth in the event.
Soyong Smith had a strong 10th place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:49.65, and Paris Thompson finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.30.
Members of the Jackson State women's track and field team participated in the Kansas Relays over the weekend. The Tigers had several top-ten finishes despite battling chilly weather conditions.
Raina Sanders finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.52. Sanders also ran in the 200 meters, but just missed the cut to advance to the finals of the event. Briana Brown came in seventh place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.32.
JSU's 4x100 meter relay team (Evan Thomas, Raina Sanders, Briana Brown, and Munirat Balogun) finished eighth with a time of 47.39.
The Mississippi Valley State women's track & field teams stayed closer to home participating at the Mississippi Open, hosted by Ole Miss.
Tambryia Barney set a personal record in the 200 Meter Dash, running a time of 24.84, placing her sixth in the event. Barney also set a personal record in the triple jump with a 11.87m finish, placing her eighth in the competition. The Greenville, Miss. native also ran second leg on the 4x400 relay team and third leg on the 4x100 squad, which placed fourth.
Queona Williams set a personal record and placed 10th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.46 and 15th in the 200 meter dash, clocking a 25.42. Sierre Randle placed 12th in the long jump recording a mark of 5.52m. And, in her first time competing, Denai Greene placed 10th in the Heptathlon, while Joyce Chum set a personal record with a time of 4:49 in the 1500 Meter Run.
