UAPB, PVAM Advance in SWAC Women's Tournament

UAPB will face top seed Alcorn State at City Park on Saturday morning, while PVAM will take on No. 2 seed Southern at the Aquatic Club. Both matches begin at 9:00 a.m.
UAPB took an early lead on A&M, winning the doubles point. Maria Cabane and Fabiola Cardoso defeated Jessica Taylor and Jasmine Cherry 8-2 in No. 2 doubles, while Martha Villacis and Monica Arcos blanked Christa Rogers and Denise Cherry 8-0 in No. 3 singles. The No. 1 singles match was halted.
Denise Cherry got A&M on the board defeating Lauren Valecillos 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. However, UAPB won No. 1, 5 and 6 singles to wrap up the match. Arcos defeated Morgen Shaw 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1. Cabane defeated Taylor 6-3, 6-3 and Villacis won against Rogers 6-0, 6-0.
PVAM took 2-of-3 doubles matches to claim the first point against Jackson State. The Lady Panthers went up 2-0 with Brittany Harrell's victory over Asha Saravanamohan 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. However, JSU took No. 2 and No. 3 singles to draw even. Karen Martinez bumped off Raven Lewis 6-4, 6-4, while Harshini Reddy defeated Lerato Ndlovu 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
The Lady Panthers climbed back on top when Christin Gwodog beat Kesica Jayapalan 6-4, 7-6. Then Alejandra Barrera closed out the match for PVAM, beating Laura Rojas 6-0, 6-2.
