SWAC Tennis Championships Get Underway Today
The 2012 SWAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships get underway today in Alexandria, La. Six men's and women's teams battle for the crown at the Alexandria City Park Tennis Complex and the Alexandria Aquatic and Racquet Club.
In the women's tournament, two matches are scheduled for Friday morning at 9 a.m. At City Park, #4 seed Arkansas-Pine Bluff faces No. 6 Alabama A&M, while No. 3 Jackson State will take on No. 5 Prairie View at the Aquatic Center. The winner of UAPB/AAMU will advance to play top seed Alcorn State at 9 a.m. on Saturday at City Park, while the survivor of JSU/PVAM faces No. 2 seed and defending champion Southern University at the Aquatic Center. The semi-final winners meet on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. for the 2012 crown. The final will be played at City Park.
In the men's tournament, the 1:00 matches on Friday feature No. 4 Alabama State playing No. 6 Jackson State at City Park and No. 3 Arkansas-Pine Bluff taking on No. 5 Alabama A&M at the Aquatic Center. On Saturday, 2011 SWAC champion and top seed Alcorn State faces the winner of ALST/JSU at City Park and No. 2 seed Prairie View gets the winner of UAPB and AAMU at the Aquatic Center. Both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m. The two finalists meet on Sunday at City Park.
Rain is the weekend forcast, but SWAC officials hope there will be no delays due to weather.
