Each SWAC baseball division leading team has a representative on this week's baseballl player of the week selections.
Hitter of the Week - Evan Richard (Prairie View A&M) - C, 5-9, 195, Sr., Missouri City, Texas
Richard led the league with a .545 (6 for 11 with 4 walks) batting average on the week and a 1.000 slugging percentage. He scored 4 runs and drove in 3 with 2 doubles and a home run during a week where the Panthers only played their confernce series with rival Texas Southern.
Led by Richard's bat and defensive captaining behind the plate, PV took the series with TSU and now leads the Western Division by 4 games in the loss column over Southern.
Pitcher of the Week - Quintavious Drains (Jackson State) - RHP, 6-3, 215, Sr., Riverdale, Ga.
Drains, who was a preseason first-team all-SWAC selection, showed why in a first place showdown performance with Alabama State where the JSU ace threw a complete-game 2-hitter against the Hornets.
He struck out 3 and walked 2 in the 5-1 victory for the Tigers in the opening game of the series in Montgomery. The Tigers would sweep the 3-game set over the weekend to clinch at least a share of the Eastern Division title.
