Alabama State 1, Jackson State 0Box ScorePRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Third-seeded Alabama State downed No. 6 seed Jackson State to advance to the semifinals of the 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Thursday afternoon.
It took nearly half the opening period for the nation's top-scoring offense to get on the board, as Aaliyah Lewis got one past Jackson State netminder Kylie Christian at the 17th minute. The Lady Tiger offense became more aggressive from there, making three attempts on goal over the remainder of the half. However, Alabama State's Gianna Guyot did not allow any inside the twine.
In the second half neither side generated much offensive pressure. Lewis had a chance for her second goal of the match late, but her shot trickled just wide of the net. The Tigers (4-12-1) were unable to mount enough of an threat.
Guyot finished with five saves on the day, and Jalah Carter led the Lady Tigers with two shots on goal. The Hornets improved to 9-9-1 on the year.
