PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – No.1 Howard opened the 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-0 win over No. 8 Southern Thursday morning in quarter-final action on the campus of Prairie View A&M
The defending Conference Champions wasted very little time getting on the scoreboard. Kela Gray scored the first goal 41:36 into the contest with an assist from Makela Davidson.
Just before the half, Priscilla Ayala assisted Jordan Bynoe on a goal that gave the Bison a 2-0 at halftime.
Southern (3-14) struggled to manufacture anything offensively. In fact, the Jaguars never attempted a goal in the first half and were outshot by the Bison 11-3.
Davidson extended Howard’s ( 13-4-2) lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal early in the second half while Gray padded things scoring on a rebounded goal that was originally blocked by Jaguars’ goalie Victoria Mendez. Gray’s goal rounded out the morning’s scoring at 4-nill.
Victoria Mendes finished with four saves for Southern while Howard's Gabrielle Emilien earned two on the day.
