Mobile -- After an offensive explosion led them to a Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament title, Mississippi Valley State came up empty against No. 13 South Alabama in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The Devilettes had a perfect thrown at them in a 10-0 loss in six innings.

With the loss, MVSU falls into the elimination bracket where they will face Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon. Mississippi State lost their opening round game to Florida State 5-3 earlier on Friday.

MVSU pitcher Alicia Lorenz held USA to four earned runs on seven hits. The six runs against her were unearned. Lorenz also issued four walks, and hit two batters, while striking out two.
