GRAMBLING, La. - Grambling State University held on to an early lead to claim a 5-1 decision over Jackson State on Wednesday at Wilbert Ellis Field.

GSU (18-30) opened the first inning with a pair of runs before adding one in the fifth. JSU (27-20) jumped on the scoreboard with a run in the eigth with GSU responding with two more scores for the final tally.

Brock Baker (3-5) pitched 7.1 innings scattering three hits, one earned run, three strikeouts and four walks.

Elias Todman finished with two RBI on one hit and Kris Minter went 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs.

JSU finished with three hits for the game. Aneko Knowles recorded a RBI driving in Nick Marigny for run scored.

Chris Wingard (1-4) was charged with the loss appearing in five innings giving up three earned runs.

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Prairie View A&M University could not recover from an early deficit falling to Texas State, 13-7, on Wednesday at Bobcat Baseball Stadium.

Brett Valley had multiple hits for PVAMU (23-23) batting 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, but that performance only put a dent in the Texas State (24-24) lead. Walter Wess finished with two runs scored.

The Panthers fell behind 3-0 in the first inning as starter Edward Robledo (3-3) struggled against the Bobcats and was tagged with the loss. In four innings on the bump, in gave up 10 hits, four earned runs with two strikeouts.

The Panthers trailed 9-0 before scoring seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to cut the deficit to 9-7. The rally, however, was short-lived. Texas State put up four runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away for the final tally.

For the Bobcats, Morgan Mickan hit a home run finishing with four RBI going 3-for-4 at the plate. He aslo recorded three runs. Nick Smelser followed with three RBI on a 3-for-5 night with two runs. Six other Bobcats tallied hits as Texas State finished the night with 14.

Eight pitchers saw action on the mound for Texas State combining for seven strikeouts. Scott Grist (5-2) picked up the win after starting the game in one inning on the bump.
