PINE BLUFF, Ark. - University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff dropped the second game of the mid-week non conference series to Murray State, 6-3, on Wednesday at Torri Hunter Baseball Complex.

UAPB (18-27) got on the board in the first inning after stringing together three hits. Kirby Campbell drove in the run with a bases-loaded single through the right side.

Campbell finished 2-for-4 with one run scored a pair of RBI.

MSU (18-27) came back in the second inning and took advantage of a throwing error to gain the lead for good. Taylor Mathews started things by being hit by a pitch and going to second on a wild pitch. After Ty Stetson walked, Brandon Elliott's grounder to short was thrown away at second base, allowing both runners on base to score.

MSU increased the lead in the sixth as Brandon Eggenschwiler singled and Mike Kozlowski drew a walk. With runners on second and third and two outs, Dalton West delivered a two-run single up the middle. A throwing error moved West to second on the play, and later scored when a ground ball went through the legs of the shortstop.

UAPB was able to score two runs in the home-half of the inning as a wild pitch on a third strike was followed by a base hit. Patrick Phillips plated both runners with a double to left field.

Didier Landry (0-3) took the loss for the Golden Lions after allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits and four strikeouts over five innings.

The Breds pushed the lead back to three in the seventh without getting a hit. Stetson drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second on a sacrifice bunt from Elliott. A wild pitch moved the runner to third and Eggenschwiler drove him in with a hard groundout off the leg of the pitcher.

MSU's pitching duo of Alex Gordon and Sheldon Baxter limited UAPB to just eight hits. Gordon (1-2) allowed three runs on seven hits and six strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Sheldon Baxter closed out the victory to earn his first collegiate save. The lefty allowed just one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

West led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Eggenschwiler added two hits, and Stetson scored a pair of runs for the Thorobreds.

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Alabama State University fell 9-2 at Jacksonville State on Wednesday at Rudy Abbott Field.

ASU (27-23) fell behind 3-0 after the opening inning. After scoring one run in the third, JSU (26-19) scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and two in the seventh inning.

Branden Castro led off the ASU's half of the third with a double down the right field line, Emmanuel Marrero's sacrifice bunt and a throwing error on the play scored Castro.

Alabama State added another run in the eighth when Marcus Swint reached on a throwing error and advanced to second base. After a sacrifice bunt by Leo Rojas, Richard Amion singled to right center field to score Swint.

Amion led the Hornets going 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Six pitchers made an appearance on the mound for ASU with starter Anthony Riccardi (3-6) taking the loss. He allowed five earned runs walking two and striking out a pair.

The Gamecocks were led by Andrew Bishop and Adam Miller at the plate. Miller went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Bishop finished with four RBI and one run scored going 2-for-3.

Bishop tripled in the third to right center to drive in two runs giving JSU a 5-1 lead. He also doubled in the seventh inning to plate a run pushing the Gamecocks out front, 9-1.

Adam Polk (3-5) picked up the win in five innings on the bump. He gave up one earned run while striking out three.


Northwestern State 12, @Southern 11

BATON ROUGE, La. - Southern University gave up a two-run lead losing 12-11 to Northwestern State on Wednesday at Lee-Hines Field.

SU (19-20) led 8-6 at the top of the eigth before NSU (13-33) plated six runs to claim the lead for good. The Jaguars added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to post the final score.

In the bottom of the eighth, SU trailed 12-8 before Sean Washington hit a three-RBI home run to narrow the gap. However, in the ninth, The Jaguars lined out. flied out and grounded out in the order to close the game.

Josh Powell (4-4) suffered the loss and was the fifth pitcher from SU to see action. He gave up two earned runs and recorded one strikeout.

Gavin Webster added a home run and Derrick Hopkins registered a pair of RBI.

Joey Parrack (1-7) earned the win for the Demons with two innings of work and three strikeouts. Cameron Brewer was credited with his fifth save.

Edwin Gomez, Nathan Lyons, Garrett Kilgore and Matt Burns each finished with a pair of RBI. Burns, Lyons and Todd Wallace each finished with two runs scored.
