Texas Southern Falls to Kansas State in WNIT First Round

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Texas Southern University suffered a slow start which led to a 72-44 loss to Kansas State on Thursday in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) at Bramlage Coliseum.
TSU (20-12) shot 27 percent and trailed 13-0 with 15:57 remaining in the first half. Gianne Fleming and Te'era Williams led the Lady Tigers on offense.
Fleming finished with a team high 15 points from 5-of-11 shooting. Williams followed with 14 points and tied a team high with Morgan Simmons with nine rebounds apiece.
Brittany Chambers scored a school-record 42 points, including a program-best 29 in the first half, to lead Kansas State (16-17). Chambers posted a double-double with 11 boards. Haley Texada chipped in 12 points to join Chambers in double figures.
K-State shot 42 percent overall and won the rebounding effort 43-32.
TSU was held without a field goal until the 12:16 mark of the first half and trailed 46-18 at the break. before K-State led by 36 points at the 6:28 mark in the second frame.
