SWAC Announces 2012 Soccer All-Conference Team

The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced the 2012 SWAC All-Conference Soccer team on Wednesday, as chosen by league coaches and Sports Information Directors.

Alabama State had the most players to make the All-Conference teams with five, two on the first team. Prairie View had four with one on the first team, while Mississippi Valley and Jackson State had three apiece.

Grambling State forward Sierra Ardnt was named SWAC Player of the Year. The 5-5, senior from Longmont, Colo. led the SWAC in scoring with eight goals. She led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, which was third in the conference.  During the season in a match against Southern, she scored four goals.

Texas Southern defender Florence Onyera was voted Defender of the Week. The 5-6, senior from Houston, Texas was tied for 7th in the SWAC in assists with three. She was also second on the team in goals-scored with three. She also had a game-winning goal.

Alabama State midfielder Anastasia McCleary was named Freshman of the Year. The Queenland, Australia native had three goals and five assists. Her assists total was tops in the SWAC. During a non-conference match against Judson College, McCleary had a pair of goals and three assists. She also earned SWAC Player of the Week during the season.

Below are the All-SWAC teams for 2012. All of these athletes will be in action this weekend at the SWAC Soccer Championships at the Johnny Downs Complex in Alexandria, La.
