BIRMINGHAM - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has selected Jackson State University's Christine Edwards, Paige Williams, and Jenna Siddiqui as SWAC Volleyball Players of the Week for October 9, 2012.
Edwards was named Offensive Player of the Week and Williams was tagged with the defensive award for a consecutive week. Siddiqui earns her first SWAC honor receiving Newcomer of the Week.
Last week, Jackson State posted a 5-0 record while extending its win streak to nine matches. The Lady Tigers captured the title at the 28th Annual Southern U. Volleyball Invitational winning three matches on the final day.
JSU (11-11) opened the week with a 3-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana (3-1) before sweeping the Invitational with victories against Grambling State (3-0), Prairie View A&M (3-0), Southern (3-0), and Alabama State (3-1). The Lady Tigers gave up two sets on the week holding opponents to an average .086 hitting percentage.
Offensive Player of the Week
Christine Edwards
Jackson State

For the week, Edwards finished with 65 kills, 54 digs and 17 service aces. As of October 9th, she currently is the nation's leader in aces per set with 1.01 per game.
Edwards recorded two double-double performances and was named MVP to close out the tournament. She posted 13 kills and 20 digs against Southern and followed with 16 kills and 15 digs in the win over Alabama State.
In addition, she managed JSU's offense during the five-game spread with 11 kills versus SELA, 10 against GSU, and 15 to help top PVAM. This is Edwards' third Offensive Player of the Week award this year.
Defensive Player of the Week
Paige Williams
Jackson State

Williams led JSU's defense through the week finishing with 10 kills while recording 26 blocks, including five solo and 21 assisted. She also tacked on 42 kills to support the Lady Tigers' attack. In the final game of the week, she posted 12 kills and nine blocks to help JSU claim the tournament.
Newcomer of the Week
Jenna Siddiqui
Jackson State
FR • S • 5'11 • Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
Siddiqui orchestrated JSU's offense piling on 181 assists for the week. She also added 24 digs and seven blocks. She finished with over 30 assists in five games, including two games registering more than 40.
She highlighted her performance recording a double-double with 34 assists and 11 digs against SU. To open the week, Siddiqui registered 40 assists at home in the win over SELA and closed out the week with 43 assists to help JSU pick up the tournament title against Alabama State.
