Jaguars Sweep Baseball Weekly Honors
A pair of Southern Jaguars have earned SWAC baseball player of the week honors after SU swept Prairie View on the road this past weekend to move into first place in the SWAC Western Division race.
Hitter of the Week - Steven Wallace (OF, 6-3, 220, Fr., Covina, Calif.
Wallace led the SWAC in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.556), slugging percentage (1.167), hits (10), runs batted in (12), and home runs (3). He also included two doubles on the week.
The redshirt freshman was 10 of 18 at the plate and drove in six runs vs. New Orleans in the Jaguars' mid-week win over the Privateers. He kept up the hot hitting in a weekend sweep of Prairie View going 6 for 13 with a pair of homers.
Pitcher of the Week - Jose DeLeon (RHP, 6-2, 210, So. Isabela, P.R.
For the third time this season, DeLeon has earned Pitcher of the Week honors. With first place in the SWAC West on the line at Prairie View, he delivered 7.0 shutout innings giving up just three hits to the Panthers. He also struck out 12 batters of the 21 outs he recorded from the mound.
