Jackson State leads Alabama State by the slimmest of margins after 18 holes at the SWAC Golf Championships at Oak Wing in Alexandria, La. Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M are tied for third, but 33 shots back of the lead. JSU shot 304, while Alabama State fired a 305.
The JSU Tigers have won five straight SWAC men's championship titles and 23 overall in the career of head coach Eddie Payton.
JSU's Clay Myers again leads as he did for two rounds a year ago. He fired an even-par 72 to lead Alabama State's Jose Rodriguez by a single stroke. Jackson State's Kyle Bodenstein is two shots back at 74.
The middle round of the 54-hole tournament tees off Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.
