BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama State University's track and field team brought home several top-10 finishes in the final round of the Blazer Invitational. Tia Rolle had the best performance of the day with a third place finish in the 60m dash crossing the finish line in 7.58. Rolle also earned a ninth place finish in the 200m dash finishing with a time of 25.03. Teammates Breana Kelly and Kesia Derilus had strong 800 meter runs, with Kelly finishing seventh (2:19.61) and Derilus following just behind in ninth (2:19.69) The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished 10 with a time of 3:56.39, and Imani White had a strong 10 place finish in the weight throw with her top throw being 15.18m (49'-09".73).
CARBONDALE, Illi. - The Jackson State men's and women's indoor track and field teams finished strong in the 2012 Saluki Open; hosted by the University of Southern Illinois. The women's team recorded five top 10 finishes during the meet. Arteshia Williams finished third in the long jump (5.67 meters) on Friday. In Saturday's action standout Raina Sanders finished third in the 400 meter dash, the event in which she currently holds the Southwestern Athletic Conference record with a time of 54.64. Briana Brown also earned a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles. Akila Craig came in seventh place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.84. The women's 4x400 meter relay "A" team (1. Deonna Bailey, 2. Terisha Julius, 3. Briana Brown, 4. Raina Sanders) finished fourth with a time of 4:03.43.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Prairie View A&M women's track team participated in the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational in College Station, Texas on Saturday. Corinna Brown marked a best performance for the Lady Panthers as she tied for second-place in the high jump, with a season-best jump of 5-5. Myesha Dixon placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, while Terracia Moody finished 10th in the 400. Shaleetha Jackson ran a season-best time of 7.95 in the 60 meters and 26.31 in the 200. Teammates Raven Turner and Erial Henderson also posted lows in the 200. The Lady Panthers posted season-high marks at the Leonard Hilton Invitational on the University of Houston campus this past weekend. Thrower Britanny Earl placed seventh in the weight throw with a length of 14.78 meters, while Rose Sampson and Ashley Parker threw marks of 12.11 and 11.02 meters, respectively, in the same event. Sampson's throw of 11.84 meters in the shot put also was a season-high. The Lady Panthers return to action in two weeks at the Houston Indoor Invitational & Multi's on Friday, Jan. 27 on the UH campus.
