The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for games played on October 22.
Offense - Dawrence Roberts (RB, Grambling)
Roberts rushed for 136 yards on 18 carries for a 7.6 yard average, including a SWAC season-long rush of 87 yards in GSU's 30-24 overtime victory over Mississippi Valley State. This is the third time in the last four games that Roberts has rushed for more than 100 yards.
Defense - Marquis Jackson (DE, Texas Southern)
Jackson tallied 8 total tackles (7 solo), including 4.5 tackles-for-loss (13 yards), 3.0 sacks (8 yards), a forced fumble, and a pass breakup in the Tigers homecoming victory, 42-11, over Central State.
Newcomer - Marvin Pittman (QB, Mississippi Valley State)
Pittman rushed for 127 yards and a scored the game-tying touchdown on the last play of regulation for the Delta Devils in a 30-24 overtime loss at Grambling. He also completed 7 of 15 passes for 65 yards and accounted for 192 yards of total offense.
Specialist - Arturo Tamayo (P/PK, Alcorn State)
Tamayo scored 10 points in the Braves 58-16 homecoming victory over Concordia. He hit 7-8 PATs and connected from 42 yards out on his only field goal attempt. He also averaged 49.8 yards per punt in 4 attempts with a long of 60 yards.
