The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week for games played on September 19.
Offense
- Casey Therriault (QB, Jackson State)
Therriault, the league's preseason offensive player of the year, threw for 261 yards and 2 touchdowns in leading the Tigers to a 28-24 victory at Southern. He also rushed for another touchdown.
Defense
- Jamie Payton (LB, Southern)
Payton registered 11 total tackles (8 solo) and accounted for three turnovers in the Jaguars 28-24 loss to Jackson State. He recorded 2 fumble recoveries and an interception to go along with a sack and 2.0 tackles-for-loss.
Newcomer
- Jerry Lovelocke (QB, Prairie View A&M)
Lovelocke threw for 259 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 22 of 37 attempts in the Panthers 27-20 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Specialty
- Kejuan Riley (DB, Alabama State)
Riley returned 2 punts for an average of 19.0 yards per return, but also recorded 2 interceptions that set up fourth quarter touchdowns for the Hornets in a 31-17 victory over Grambling.
