SWAC Spring Meetings News and Notes

Birmingham, Ala. - The Council of Presidents and Chancellors of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, met this week in Houston at the annual SWAC spring meetings, along with several coaches groups and administrators. 

                                                             

Below is a list of some of the recommendations that were approved.

  • Adoption of SWAC postseason championships and tournaments ban to coincide with any member institution placed under an NCAA restriction, effective immediately.
  •  Expansion of the conference basketball tournament to include all 10 (eligible) men's and women's teams beginning in 2012.
  •  Maintain the "100 percent rule" for 24-game Conference schedule in baseball (all Conference games must be played).
  •  Conference women's and men's doubleheaders during the basketball season will begin between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoons.
  •  All-SWAC honors in men's and women's basketball and volleyball will be selected by SWAC head coaches only. Previously, sports information directors and selected media were included in the voting process.
  • Conference golf teams are not allowed to practice or play at the site of the SWAC Championship for up to 30 days prior to the beginning of the championship.
  • Elimination of the "divisional structure" in men's and women's tennis.
