Texas Southern upsets top-seed Jackson State

The first upset at the 2008 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament occurred when the Eastern Division top seed Jackson State fell to the Western Division fourth seed Texas Southern 10-9 at the Pete Goldsby Field Thursday, May 15.
Jackson State took an early lead posting six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Texas Southern would rally to take the lead 7-6 in the seventh inning, but JSU answered with three runs to take a 9-7 lead in the bottom of the eight. Jackson State posted ten hits and committed three errors while Texas Southern had eight hits and two errors.
Jordan Bush led Texas Southern with four runs batted in while David Arrendondo drove in two runs. Kyle Smith went 1-for-3 from the plate with two walks and three runs scored. Justin Holloway, David James and Michael Morris each registered one hit and one RBI. Ehern Moreno worked 3 2/3 innings in relief to earn the win.
Pernell Halliman and Derrick Johnson had two hits and one run batted in respectively while both Willie Wesley and Charles Brown had two hits and two runs batted in a piece and Jamaal Thelwell ended the night with one hit and one run batted in. Pernell Halliman suffered the loss for Jackson State.
Texas Southern will take on the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils at 10 a.m. at the Lee Hines stadium while the Jackson State Tigers will return to the Pete Goldsby Field to take on the Grambling State Tigers at 10 a.m.
