Higher Seeds Prevail on Opening Day of SWAC Tennis Tournament

ALEXANDRIA, La. - There were no upsets on Friday as the higher seeds all prevailed after a two-hour rain delay on the opening day of the SWAC Tennis Tournament in Alexandria, La.

The day began with a pair of women's matches. Prairie View A&M, the second seed from the Western Division, took a 4-0 victory over the east third seed Alabama A&M. Second seeded Jackson State from the Eastern Division followed with a 4-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the third seed from the west.

In men's action, No. 4 Arkansas-Pine Bluff downed No. 6 Alabama A&M by a 4-0 score. The opening day concluded with No. 3 Jackson State topping No. 5 Alabama State 5-2.

The tournament resumes with semifinal action on Saturday. Top-seeded Alcorn State from the Eastern Division meets Prairie View A&M in women's action at 9 a.m., while Western Division No. 1 seed Southern faces Jackson State at 9 a.m.

Saturday's men's semifinal matches pit No. 1 Alcorn State against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Jackson State and Prairie View A&M close out the semifinal round at 1 p.m.
