SWAC Men's Golf Championship Recap: Day One

Alexandria, La. – The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a commanding lead on day one of the 2018 SWAC Golf Championship. 

Alabama State is in second place in the team standings, after shooting a 307 (+19).  Alcorn State is in third place (310 +22), while Texas Southern (315, +27) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (338, +50) round out the team leaderboard after day one.

The Panthers fired a two under par 286 team total on day one, with Laurence Crea pacing PVAM, by shooting a five under 67 to take a five shot lead into day two.  Prairie View currently holds the top four individual spots on the leaderboard.  Zane Brooks (72, E), John Jones (73, +1) and David Baker Jr. ( 74. +2) round out the Panthers in the top four.

Noel Sims from Alabama State shot a four over round of 76 to occupy a tie for fifth after day one.  Franco Di Bendetto of Alcorn State, Alexander Belanger of Alabama State and Mbongeni Maphosa Jr. of Alabama State also are tied for fifth after day one.

The second round of the championship will get underway tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT.
