Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas – A late second-half run keyed Alabama A&M to a 61-53 Tuesday night at the Toyota Center the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. With the win, the Bulldogs will face top-seeded Texas Southern tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.

Trailing 44-40 lead with just under 13-and-a-half minutes left, the Golden Lions went on a 10-0 run to plant themselves in the driver’s seat to the tune of a 50-44 advantage with 6:12 left. It was then that the Bulldogs' offense -- which had gone scoreless for seven-plus minutes to that point -- responded with a 13-3 run keyed by Ladarius Tabb to turn the tide.

Both sides traded free throws before a Tabb dunk put AAMU ahead 57-53 with 1:00 left. Rakiya Battle iced the contest with free throws.

A fast start from UAPB’s JoVaughn Love, who scored UAPB’s first seven points on his way to a 13-point, seven board first half, gave way to a back-and-forth contest for much of the opening half.

The Golden Lions appeared to take some semblance of control with a 9-0 run to go up 27-20 with 3:58 left in the period, but the Bulldogs used a 9-2 run to knot things up at 29 with a minute and a half to go before four straight points by Love sent UAPB into intermission up 33-29.

Tabb led the Bulldogs with 17 points and seven rebounds, and Nicholas West was a rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Battle chipped in nine points, five rebounds and eight assists.

Love notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Marquis Cunningham added 12 points.
