Mississippi Valley State 11, @ULM 6BOX SCOREMONROE, La. - Mississippi Valley State University clipped a 10-game skid with an 11-6 victory over defending Sun Belt Champions, ULM, on Wednesday at Warhawk Field.
After MVSU (5-36) tallied a pair of two-RBI singles to highlight a five-run first inning, the Delta Devils piled on six more runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead for the remainder of the game.
MVSU registered five of the six runs scored in the eigth with two outs. German Hays and Joseph Germaine recorded two-RBI singles through the left side to help MVSU pull away.
Germaine finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored and Hays went 2-for-5 while scoring a pair of runs.
Reliever David Lostra (3-6) earned the win after surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings.
ULM (16-26) reliever, Chad Miller, was hit with the loss. He tossed 6.2 innings, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Kodie Tidwell drove home Dalton Herrington to set the final tally. Tidwell paced the Warhawks with three hits and three RBI.
@Jackson State 9, UNO 6BOX SCOREJACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State University outlasted University of New Orleans to earn a 9-6 win on Wednesday evening at Braddy Field.
JSU (23-18) reliever, Andre Rodriguez, (4-0) earned the win in 2.1 innings on the bump. Starter, Brandon Gregory, finished with four strike outs in 6.2 innings giving up six earned runs.
Trailing 3-0, the Tigers scored its first run in the fourth when Ethan Bright drove in Malcolm Tate on a double to right field. The Tigers then scored four more runs on four hits in the sixth to take a 5-3 advantage.
Charles Tilery led the Tigers at the plate going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Bryce Taylor finished with three runs scored and two hits from four at bats.
Ethan Bright also finished 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.
UNO (6-38) answered scoring three runs in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but the Tigers replied with three to take an 8-6 advantage. JSU added another run in the eighth for the final score.
Five UNO pitchers saw action with Garrett Manning (0-3) taking the loss, giving up three earned runs, on four hits, with one out in the seventh before leaving the mound.
Cameron Keener and Dan Perkins each finished with two hits and a RBI to lead the Privateers at the plate.
@UAB 7, Alabama State 0BOX SCOREBIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama State University ended its home-and-home series with UAB, suffering a 7-0 loss on Wednesday at Young memorial Field.
A total of five pitchers saw action on the rubber for ASU (28-18), with Matt Burnside (1-2) taking the loss. Burnside went the first four innings, giving up two earned runs off five hits.
Only three Hornets reached base against UAB. Richard Gonzalez singled with one out in the first inning, but was erased on an inning-ending double play. Dillon Cooper reached safely on a bunt single, but was caught stealing in the second. The only other base runner was Leo Rojas, who started the eighth frame with a bloop double but was also caught stealing.
UAB (17-25) starting pitcher, Alex Luna (1-3), faced 27 batters and retired 16 consecutive Hornets from the second through the eighth inning.
Luna finished with 10 strikeouts and induced 13 ground outs, including a double play, one fly out with catcher Jacob German picking off two runners.
UAB (17-25) pounded out 12 hits en route to scoring seven runs. The Blazers scored all seven runs in three innings as the first three hitters in the lineup -- Ryan Prinzing, Chase Davis and John Frost -- combined to go 6-for-12 at the plate scoring five runs.
Tanner Bryant posted two hits, while Ivan De Jesus, Jacob German and Tyler Mims all knocked in a run. Of UAB's 12 base hits, five went for extra bases. Frost and Bryant each hit doubles, while Prinzing, Davis and De Jesus all tripled.
