MOBILE, Ala. - Jackson State University kept its win streak alive defeating South Alabama, 3-2, on Wednesday in Jag Gym.

JSU (15-11) moved its match streak to 13 handing USA (13-12) its first home loss in eight matches dating back to last season.

The Lady Tigers picked up the sets with scores of 14-25, 25-16, 25-21, 12-25, and 15-10 to capture their first win over the Jaguars in the series match-up.

Christine Edwards registered a match-high 18 kills to lead JSU on the offense. Mikayla Rolle added eight kills, while Kameron Boggan and Jenna Siddiqui also chipped in with six kills each.

Boggan also recorded a team-high eight block assists. Jackson State held a 9.0 - 6.0 advantage at the net, posting one block solo and 16 block assists. Angelica King paced the team with 17 digs in the back court and Siddiqui led all players with 33 assists.

The Jaguars were paced offensively by Olivia Mohler's 11 kills. Savannah Stewart had nine kills with four aces and 10 digs. Emily Hundt had 22 assists and Katarina Kananen followed with 21. Jenna Hassell led all players with 26 digs in the loss.

Leading by just one early on in the opening set, South Alabama used a 7-1 run to pull away from JSU. USA then took advantage of four JSU attack errors to cap off the scoring and extend the lead out to seven (10-3).

Later with USA leading 13-4 following a kill from Torlandria Jones, Jackson State began to chip away at the deficit and raked off seven of the next 10 points to trim the Jaguar advantage to five (16-11). Edwards led the way for the Lady Tigers during the run as posting four of her seven first-set kills during that stretch.

Two points later, South Alabama put the set away as the Jaguars reeled off another 7-1 run to sit one point away from going up one set to none in the match. Mohler registered two of her four kills in the frame.

Jackson State grabbed the first three points of the second set, but Jaguars answered and pushed across six of the next seven points to take a 7-5 lead. With the set tied 9-9, JSU rattled off a 9-1 run, quickly jumping out to an 18-10 lead. Boggan sparked the Lady Tigers run recording a pair of kills and two block assists. Edwards added two aces during the scoring spurt and JSU controlled the remainder of the set picking up the 25-16 set win.

Tied 5-5 early in the third set, the Lady Tigers stretched their lead posting four-straight points to take a 9-5 lead following an error by South Alabama. JSU later extended its lead 17-8 after a USA attack error.

With JSU leading 19-11, South Alabama started to rally. Mohler ignited a 6-2 run for the Jags over the next eight points to help trim the deficit 21-17. USA kept chipping away at the deficit and pulled to within three (24-21) after back-to-back kills. JSU took the ensuing point and picked up the set (25-21) on a USA ball handling error.

USA jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the fourth set and would hold a double-digit advantage (13-2) to control for the rest of the frame. The Jaguars led by as much as 14, before eventually evening the match at two sets apiece with the 25-12 victory.

In the final frame, JSU took advantage of four USA attack errors and jumped out to an 8-1 lead. Edwards and Siddiqui also added an ace apiece during the run. South Alabama made a late charge and fought off three match points, the last two coming on back-to-back aces from Hundt, but a JSU kill on the next point clinched the set and the match for the Lady Tigers, 15-10.

JACKSON, Miss. - Alcorn State University dropped its second 3-0 match of the season to Belhaven on Wednesday at Rugg Arena.

 

The Lady Braves (1-21) fell by set scores of 25-14, 25-5, 25-10.

Georgia Parsons and Brisha Coffee finished with three kills for ALCN. Parsons added seven assists with Jaclyn Kuzniar leading the back end with seven digs.

Taylor Williams led the Blazers (21-6) in kills with 12. Erin Bradley posted 34 assists with Gabriella Zorzoli leading the back line in digs with 13.
