BATON ROUGE, La. - University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeated Southern University 3-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference western division play on Monday at the Cliford Seymour Gym.
UAPB (5-12, 3-1) dropped the first set 25-21 before winning the last three frames 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.
Audrey Sherles hit .533 posting nine kills from 15 total attacks for the Lady Lions. Ashlie Jones posted 12 kills and Michelle Fiala had 10. Jordan Foye dished out 31 assists and Alexis Lowe followed with 11.
Brea Clayton and Alicia Campbell led a UAPB defense that recorded five blocks. Clayton tallied 14 digs and Campbell chipped in 13.
SU (2-19, 0-3) was led by Keya Bennett and Jacquia Bell's double-double performances. Bennett finished with 27 assists and 10 digs. Bell had 11 digs and hit .417 in total attack percentage recording 12 kills. Michelle Williams tied a game-high with 14 kills.

La. - Mississippi Valley State picked up its first Southwestern Athletic Conference western division sweeping Alcorn State 3-0 on Monday at the HPER Complex.
MVSU (6-9, 1-1) hit .325 including .414 in the final stanza with Halle Gayten leading the offense with 10 digs. Jane Peterson added nine assists and 14 digs. Alexandria Garland finished with a team-high 17 digs to lead the Devilettes.
Shaquanda Hollis topped the ALCN (1-18, 0-4) offense with seven kills. Jaclyn Kuzniar posted a game-high 27 of the Lady Braves 40 digs.
