BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference named Mississippi Valley State wide receiver Julian Stafford and Jackson State teammates, quarterback Clayton Moore, defensive back Qua Cox, with kicker Ryan Deising, its football players of the week for October 15, 2012.

Stafford received the offensive player award for the first time this season. Cox garnered defensive honors, Moore was selected newcomer of the week and Deising was tagged as the conference's specialist.

Offensive Player of the Week
Julian Stafford
Mississippi Valley State

Stafford recorded a career-night to help Mississippi Valley State capture a 45-21 win over Grambling State. He registered 263 all-purpose yards accounting for more than half of MVSU's 406 yards of total offense. Stafford finished with three touchdowns for the game. He posted seven receptions for 162 yards and two scores along with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Defensive Players of the Week
Qua Cox
Jackson State

Cox earned his first defensive award for his role during Jackson State's stunning 37-34 win over Alabama State. Cox finished with seven tackles and an interception. His interception in the fourth quarter led to a JSU score to tie the game at 34.

Newcomer of the Week
Clayton Moore

Moore was responsible for all of Jackson State's touchdowns to defeat Alabama State 37-34. He accounted for 400 of JSU's 533 total yards on offense scoring five touchdowns. He rushed for a game-high 131 yards and three making three visits to the end zone while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He also completed 12 of 26 pass attempts for 269 yards and two scores. He notches his second weekly award on the year.

Specialist of the Week
Ryan Deising
Jackson State

Deising stunned Alabama State in the final seconds with a 39-yard field goal as time expired to give Jackson State a dramatic 37-34 win. The kick was Deising longest of the season. He also finished the game connecting 4-of-5 PATs to garner his first career player of the week award.
